This was my first attempt at doing a Quake II map. It started out more as an attempt to create my childhood home in 3D rather than making something playable. I chose QERadiant as my editor. One of the mistakes I made was not really understanding how these things can rapidly expand. I went to a lot of effort to load up as much detail as I could. You can see I even included brushes for all the floorboards and moldings around the doors.

When I joined clan WOS, I was encouraged to finish the map. I added an outside, spawn-points, and weapons. Now the map is weighing in at 5 megs. (Pretty hefty for a Q2 map!). It's playable, but if you start getting people who start going nuts with the napalm or other weapons that cause a lot of outgoing updates, this map will seriously lag the server. Mostly because all that glorious detail is also visible through the windows from the outside.

One of my other favorite shows growing up was Star Trek; the original series. I ait up just about everything that was available on that show.

I even made a small cardboard model of a federation style ship when I was around 9;

My vision was to make the set of the enterprise as it existed in the Desilu studios. Of course with the bridge connected to the hallways via a turbolift and if there was room, the shuttlecraft hanger deck.

Turns out QERadient wasn't up to the job. The bridge is a 10 sided object, most of the sides being the bridge consoles. So I would make one console, copy, then paste it, cut 18 degrees off of each corner, rotate 36 degrees and join them. QERadient just didn't do the rotaions very exactly. It also "projected" the textures on the surface real funny, so I took this opportunity over the Christmas holiday of 2005 to learn the Quark editor.

The map is quite playable, and didn't expand to enormous size. Weighing in at just over 3 megs.

It has every weapon, functional transporters for the "dangerous" operation of intra-ship beaming. A non-canonical force-field in the shuttle bay which shouldn't be breached, else you'll get sucked out into space and turned into chunky salsa!
